Before the days of “Twilight: New Moon,” Florida native Ashley Greene was just another t-shirt, jeans and flip-flops kinda girl — without a personal stylist. Today, she’s traded in the flip flops for a pair (or a couple) of Jimmy Choos, and while she’s still rocking the tees and jeans, she has added a side of red carpet glam.
Ashley opened up to MTV’s “What Were You Thinking” about her fashion hits and misses over the last couple of years and some of the rules she’s picked up along the way.
The “Twilight” star, who proudly states she’s a “girly girl,” said one of her earliest fashion mistakes was in 2006, when she wore a midriff-bearing white top and jeans with suspenders to a “Hollywood Life,” magazine party. “This was definitely before I had a stylist,” she says, “Not my best look, probably.”
But things got better. One of Ashley’s favorite dresses was from the “Twilight” premiere in 2008. She said it was love at first sight, when she tried on the little black dress with a pleated bottom paired with Jimmy Choos. “I feel like Jimmy Choo can do no wrong,” she said (we couldn’t agree more). “Even though they were really uncomfortable, they were totally worth it.”
So was the fitted flowery Dolce & Gabbana dress she wore to the MTV Movie Awards (http://www.mtv.com/ontv/movieawards/2009/categories.jhtml) this year, but it still made the cut as one of her favorites. After all, beauty is pain right?
The red carpet has also taught Ashley some good fashion lessons. Besides ridding her closet of all midriff-bearing tops (at least, we hope), she advises stylists everywhere not to let their clothes overwhelm them.
But the best thing about Ashley’s closet is that some her outfits go to a charity (donatemydress.org), which redistributes them for girls who can’t afford dresses for prom and other events. Now, that’s a fashion lesson to follow.
