BD Chapter 2. Long Night

Thu, 06/10/2011 - 22:57 | by Eyes of Amber

Ah yes, the night of Edward's bachelor party! Of course first there is the makeout session, practice, as Bella calls it. Edward's not happy about the sacrifices that Bella is making, but she's more than willing. I love the interaction here with Emmett, Edward and Jasper. And of course, Jasper's explanation of their bachelor party plans when Bella asks if they're headed to a strip club.
"Just a few mountain lions, a couple of grizzly bears. Pretty much an ordinary night out."Then Bella is alone and has to think about what she's facing the next day. Among her fears, Tanya and the Denali coven. I don't know a single woman out there who wouldn't be interested to meet the girl who tried and was shot down. She's got to be thinking that Tanya's going to wonder what in the world Bella has that made him choose her.
Her thoughts of Tanya lead her to recount the story of the "mother" of the Denali coven and why she is no longer with them. She created an immortal child. You factor in that Edward and Bella were just talking about the fact that choosing to be a vampire and his wife meant no children for her and it's not surprising that a child would star in her dream that night.

What do you think about Bella's choice to give up her chance of being a mother in order to be with Edward? What do you think about her nightmare?

Here are the key plot points from this chapter according to the Official Illustrated Guide

  • The night before their wedding, Edward worries about all that Bella is giving up
  • Bella is worried about tripping in her wedding gown, and about meeting Tanya and the Denali clan; Carlisle explains the the Denaliss' mother was destroyed by the Volturi for creating an immortal child

I'm very surprised that the nightmare wasn't included as a key plot point here. It certainly stays with Bella.
You can find the Twilight Lexicon chapter summary here. (Love that it starts with "Edward, shirtless" lol)
