British actor Michael Sheen has been named Actor of the Year at the inaugural Digital Spy Movie Awards. The actor was voted by the millions of fans for his outstanding performance in Frost/Nixon and the Damned United. In his speech, Michale thanked his fans, who have always been supported of him and of course his peers in the industry for trusting in him.

What a huge honour and a total thrill to have been given this award! I’d like to say a very large thank you to all the Digital Spy readers who voted for me. If I could shake each of your digits personally I would. Working on both films was a fantastic experience. Though quite different experiences comfort-wise. OnFrost/Nixon, it was all glorious Californian sunshine, The Beverley Hotel, LA bathing beauties and handmade, tailored suits and shirts. OnThe Damned United, it was rain and mud, cold football grounds in Chesterfield and Leeds, corned beef legs and sheepskin coats. What a life!

“I’m very proud to have been a part of both films and to have seen them both be so well received. I’d like to thank Peter Morgan of course, who simply could not have done it without me. Seriously, it has been a privilege and a continual thrill to work alongside him and I feel very fortunate and immensely grateful to have had the oportunity to work on such superbly written projects.

“Also, Ron Howard and Tom Hooper for their guidance and brilliance, and the safe hands of Brian Grazer, Eric Fellner, Andy Harries, Christine Langan, Deborah Schindler and all the other producers of both films. And last but not least, to Frank, Matthew, Sam, Oliver, Rebecca, Kevin, Toby, Tim, Jim, Stephen, Elizabeth and all the other actors who made up the casts of both films. Any praise for my performance must go to them, too, as our performances are all part of each others and it is only together that anything can come to life. Once again, thank you very much for voting for me. This is a wonderful day for second-rate Welsh impressionists everywhere!”
