It is a well known fact that The Twilight Saga has a loyal army of fans who would go on a Mediterranean cruise and back again just to do or see something in the name of Twilight. None more so than a newly wedded couple in the UK.
The couple were married earlier last month in a Twilight inspired ceremony. Not so unusual you might think – until that is you find out that the couple are a Mr and Mrs Cullen!
Abigail and Andy from Bournemouth – a coastal city in the UK were married on February 5th and changed their names by deed poll to Cullen. Bride Abigail, who is the driving force behind the Twilight enhanced day, didn’t want to take her husband’s name after they were married. As a result she came up with the idea of changing both their surnames to Cullen.
The day itself carried a number of Twilight inspired themes from the film Breaking Dawn: Part 1. The bride wore a traditional gown to the actual wedding ceremony but then quickly changed into a replica gown as worn by Bella (Kristen Stewart) for her wedding in the film to Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). Abigail walked down the aisle to the instrumental version of Sleeping At Last ‘Turning Page’ from the Breaking Dawn soundtrack and as a married couple Abigail and Andy walked back up the aisle at the end of the ceremony to ‘Bella’s Lullaby’.
The Twilight theme transferred from the day into the evening celebrations as the couple chose more music from the film for their ‘first dance’ together in the form of the vocal version of Sleeping At Last ‘Turning Page’ and they shared their first kiss together as a married couple to Iron & Wine’s ‘Flightless Bird, American Mouth (Wedding Version)’ as was also done by Bella and Edward in the film.
The whole soundtrack featured as background music during the meal and even the wedding cake the floral arrangements, the bridal bouquet and the room decorations were made to be identical to the film.
Of her good sport husband Abigail said he is “very tolerant, bless him” and when asked about how the best man quipped “Here’s to Bella and Edward” in his speech she said that he had delivered this line very effectively.

Meanwhile as fans still talk about the actual wedding dress that Bella wore in the film, the newly released DVD of Breaking Dawn Part 1 contains some previously unseen pictures of the breathtaking wedding gown. In the special wedding feature on the DVD the leading lady herself talks about the difficult process of finding the perfect wedding dress for Bella and how she felt the pressure to pull it off on film right up until the final fitting.
Dress designer Caroline Herrera was specially selected to make the gown and the dress design itself was hand picked by the Twilight author Stephanie Meyer and Breaking Dawn director Bill Condon from ten sketch proposals.
Herrera who is Meyers favourite designer custom made the dress over six months. Four seamstresses worked on the dress which was hand made. The dress is reported to have cost $35,000 and had 186 buttons in total and was made from French Chantilly lace. Despite never seeing Bella’s shoes on film, we are led to believe that she wore Manolo Blahnik custom made and jewel encrusted satin pumps.
In an interview with Brides Magazine, Herrera talked of the moment when Kristen put on the dress and looked at herself in the mirror.
“…she was very moved. In that moment she was not an actress or a character in a film, she was a bride, and a happy one at that”
Of the gown style Herrera said she was very much influenced by Meyer’s description of it in the book but added her own design flair to it.
“Bella’s dress is romantic and filled with a timeless sophistication, very similar to the character. In a way, this dress served as a symbol of the character’s coming of age and introduction into womanhood.”
The Twilight gown has been available to buy from Herrera boutiques in New York, Los Angeles, Bal Harbour and Dallas since the start of 2012 so it looks like more Twilight weddings to come. Let’s hope they don’t all go to the lengths of the UK Cullen’s otherwise it could get complicated!
