With “New Moon” coming to theaters in less than two weeks, a lot of outlets are paying closer attention to what lies ahead for its stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
First, Gossip Cop spoke with insiders at Summit Entertainment and can confirm that Pattinson’s next film, “Remember Me,” has been pushed back to a March 12 release. Originally the pic had been set to bow in February.
Next is a new batch of rumors, courtesy of Famous magazine, claiming Stewart will not be back as Bella Swan for the potential “Breaking Dawn” film in the “Twilight” series. How badly does Famous want fans to panic? The article’s headline blares, “Kristen: ‘I’m Quitting Twilight!’”
Wow… so what led to the mag’s scoop?
Um, nothing.
Mashing up old quotes, fact-deficient speculation, and good old-fashioned presumption, Famous prints absolutely nothing new or substantive to back up its claim. The mag includes Stewart’s recent comments about not wanting “to be a movie star like Angelina Jolie” and her decision not to attend the Vancouver wrap party for “Eclipse” as indications she’s only recently somewhat uncomfortable with the spotlight (wow, what a shocker!).
According to the tab, Stewart has told “pals” she wants to leave the franchise (uh huh)… and yet the piece also makes sure to quote sources close to the actress as saying, “She’s considered leaving before but has always changed her mind and stayed… [she's] very torn… the last thing she wants to do is appear ungrateful.”
Famous then covers itself even further, asserting, “However unlikely it is that she’ll quit, given her contractual obligations, producers are doing everything in their power to keep Kristen with the franchise.” And the anticlimax closes with a “mutual friend” confiding that Pattinson himself will help keep Stewart on board, as “she has considered quitting but Rob’s been instrumental in helping her stay committed – they both know what a truly wonderful opportunity they’ve been given.”

Are we missing something?
The mag’s cover screams, “Kristen: ‘I’m Quitting Twilight.’” The piece’s headline screams, “Kristen: ‘I’m Quitting Twilight.’”
But she never said anything of the sort. And Famous knows it, which is why it spends the second half of its article admitting Stewart’s not actually going to leave.
Good news for fans, bad “news” for so-called “news sources.” Which is why Gossip Cop busts ‘em.
