In an interview with USA Today, Twilight’s Peter Facinelli talked about his enjoyment in talking with his fans and comments on Dr. Cullen’s Signature look.

“Eclipse is my favorite book in the series,” says Facinelli, whose benevolent version of Count Dracula finally gets his bite on while warding off a rival gang of newborn hemoglobin addicts.

“I like that the two opposing forces, vampires and werewolves, band together for the common good,” he says of the plot, which finds the Cullens striking an uneasy truce with Native American shape-shifters to protect son Edward’s mortal love, Bella.

“I enjoy connecting with fans,” Facinelli says. “It’s interesting, because Dr. Cooper has an actual Twitter account and I talk to him sometimes.”

“I went to Catherine Hardwicke (the director of the first movie) and told her that Carlisle is a perfect gentleman and it would be interesting for him to wear scarves since they might have been in fashion at that time. Plus, after being bit on the neck, it might be a subconscious need to not have it exposed.”

So for Twilightand its sequel, New Moon, Carlisle almost always wore some sort of dangling swatch. However, the director of this summer’s Eclipse, David Slade, was not a big fan.

“He thought it was getting to be like Mickey Mouse ears,” says Facinelli of his signature apparel. But instead of just putting them in storage, the actor thought it might be better if he first made some sort of statement on-screen. “It’s a scene where I go to the werewolves for help. I take the scarf off. I wanted to show him standing before them naked and vulnerable.”

He also talked about how his younger co-stars are handling the fame that they are being catapulted into.

It must have been scary, to be catapulted into the limelight when you are that age,” says Facinelli, who will return for Breaking Dawn, the adaptation of the fourth book that might be turned into two films. “I don’t know if I could have handled it so gracefully, to be under that kind of microscope and judged if you go out or be judged if you stay in. The rumors just fly around. They lead a simple life and are not seeking that kind of publicity.”
