In Stephenie Meyer’s Defense…

Great article defending her story that we all know and love.

In Richelle Mead’s series, “Vampire Academy,” there are three different types of vampires: evil vampires, royal vampires, and half-vampires. Only two of these three kinds of vampires drink blood to survive and only the evil vampires cannot go out into the sun. In Charlaine Harris’ “Sookie Stackhouse” series, which has been made into a TV series on HBO called “True Blood,” her vampires are out in society and normal humans know about them. Her vampires also have the choice of drinking synthetic blood called True Blood which is where the TV series takes its name.

But let’s not forget werewolves as well who have also been recreated by authors. Who dared imagine something different than crazed wolf-men who sought to kill everyone in sight? Well, J. K. Rowling for one. Although Rowling’s version of werewolves is generally traditional, she does veer off into new territory with her character, Remus Lupin. Yes, Lupin was bitten by a werewolf and he in turn becomes a werewolf. And yes, every month during the full moon, he has the possibility of turning into a raging monster. However, there is a potion that Lupin can take every month to keep his mind during his “changes,” which makes him a very docile werewolf. How dare J.K. Rowling create something like that! The nerve of her writing what is possibly the most popular book series of all time.
