Stephenie Meyer Responds To BD Rumors

We’re already well into the new year, and still there’s been no confirmation as to the means by which Summit Entertainment plans to unleash the final chapter in The Twilight Saga known as Breaking Dawn onto the throng of tweens and cougars who are anxiously awaiting it. Will it be one film or two? Is this causing “drama” between author Stephenie Meyer and the studio as alleged by some in the media?

Today Meyer took to her website and posted the following:

Just a quick note on the subject of the Breaking Dawn film: there is no drama over whether the book should be one movie or two. My personal feeling is that it would be very difficult to cram the whole story into one movie (as I’ve said in many interviews previous to this), but if a great way of doing that surfaces, I’m all for it. Two or one, whichever way fits the story best is fine by me, and everyone I’ve spoken with at Summit seems to feel the same way. We’re all excited to move forward on this, and we are slowly and surely getting there. I know people are anxious for news, and so sometimes gossip gets fabricated to stir things up, but there’s no basis to this particular story.

All righty then. If there’s no drama as Meyer insists, what’s the delay? More than likely, the issue of paychecks for its three leads, who have skyrocketed to stardom thanks to the franchise. And there’s the matter of a director, too. Some are calling for Chris (New Moon) Weitz’s return while others are taking a wait-and-see approach to how David Slade handles Eclipse. With so many moving parts, we predict it’ll be a while before we hear anything concrete so keep it here for more as it comes.
