British fans of Twilight went wild at the weekend on London’s Oxford Street demonstrating their passion for the collection of films in all their bridal glory.
Over 150 dedicated fans showed up on Sunday 11th March at the HMW store dressed as brides to celebrate the launch of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 on DVD and Blu-ray. Bride fans were also to be among the first to see a sneak peak of a clip of the forthcoming The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.
Only fans dressed in wedding outfits were allowed to watch the clip and the HMW store was the only store in the UK to premiere the clip. As an extra special reward for donning their wedding attire fans were allowed to buy an early copy of the DVD and Blu-ray release of Part 1.
The event was attended by extra special guest George Cooper – the UK Edward Cullen lookalike, who was available to pose for pictures with excited fans in his morning suit.
Record breakers?
To mark the occasion there was also a special invite sent out via Brides Magazine and on Twitter for brides to be to help break a Guinness World Record for the longest chain of brides in one location. The record attempt by Entertainment One saw brides queuing round the block to be part of Twilight history – the film distributor known for dramatic DVD release events are remaining tight lipped on whether or not a record was set. If successful, it would mark the second Guinness World Record achieved by The Twilight Saga. Director, Catherine Hardwicke’s work on Twilight gained her and the film a place in the 2010 Guinness Book of World Records for “Highest-Grossing Movie by a Female Director” earning a well deserved pat on the back and a rest on a chaise sectional.
Ice cold
Elsewhere in London the day after the bridal gathering on Monday 12th March, Kristen Stewart had a very chilly reception at Madame Tussauds as an ice sculpture of her was unveiled. The actress, who of course plays, Bella Swan has had her likeness carved in ice to stand alongside waxworks of her now on screen husband Edward Cullen, actor Robert Pattinson and his arch enemy and love rival Jacob Black played by Taylor Lautner. The ice sculpture will last only two days and was made to commemorate the DVD release of Breaking Dawn Part 1 that went on general sale that day. Stewart’s is the first ice sculpture to be shown at the London museum.
What awaits fans in Part 2?
So what delights did the clip for Breaking Dawn – Part 2 hold for eager Twilight fans on Oxford Street as they were shown an exclusive three-minute clip as well as behind-the-scenes images and interviews with cast members?
What it did give them was the first look at Bella after Part 1 ended with her transformation from human to vampire. As Part 1 left fans on a cliffhanger showing Bella opening her amber colored vampire eyes, after husband Edward was forced to turn her as she was on the verge of dying in childbirth. Part 2 shows fans Bella’s new look with amber eyes, pale skin and red lips, complementing the rest of the Cullen family.
As a result of the transformation to vampire Bella has developed a super power, like all the vampire characters have. Bella’s is one of a higher level of self control and the ability to protect herself and her loved ones with her mind.
The films’ makers Lionsgate plan to release a preview of film trailer online at 3am on March 20th 2012 and a full trailer will be shown exclusively at cinemas on March 23rd before new movie The Hunger Games. The full film is not released until 16th November 2012 in both the USA and UK ensuring it will be a Christmas blockbuster.
Whilst the two films Part 1 and Part 2 were filmed together meaning that Part 2 was completed in April 2011 the film makers are creating a fantastic hype and much anticipation for the next installment of the film franchise.
The Hunger Games is a film set in the future and is an adaptation of a young adult novel by Suzanne Collins – the film like The Twilight Saga is also made by Lionsgate and written and produced by Collins herself.
