In other soundtrack news, the compilers behind the Twilight soundtracks, Alexandra Patsavasand Paul Katz, talked to NME Magazine on how they choose from the many bands and musicians whose music will end up in the soundtrack. Here is an excerpt of their interview:
The compilers of theTwilight film soundtracks have spoken about how they bag exclusives from bands including Muse, The Dead Weather and Vampire Weekend.
The soundtrack album for Twilight: Eclipse is out on June 7. Music supervisors Paul Katz and Alexandra Patsavas have claimed that choosing songs from big artists, plus smaller acts such as Fanfarlo and Bombay Bicycle Club, doesn’t stem from an attempt to cash in on bands’ cool factors.
“We have forward-thinking directors and they have a progressive music taste,” Patsavas said. “It’s completely natural.”
Katz said that they saw introducing new acts as an important part of fans’ engagement with the albums. “It’s about the best piece of music for the scene,” he said. “But we do like the role of introducing new acts. We have Eastern Conference Champions, who we’ll be introducing.”
Patsavas said an important factor was the tone of each scene. “This is the battle movie,” she said of Eclipse. “So there should be some conflict in the music, so we have a band like The Dead Weather there.”
Dont forget to pick up your own copy of NME Magazine which will feature an in-depth look on the phenomenon of the Twilight soundtracks, including the impact they are giving to the bands. The issue is already out in news stands.
