In an article by Pop Eater, Kristen Stewart’s casting in The Yellow Handkerchief was partially aided by her once on-screen mom, Jodie Foster.
According to producer Arthur Cohn, he was “urged” by Ms. Foster to sign Kristen up for the role.
“Nobody wanted me to take (Stewart) in the part of Martine, she was practically an unknown,” Cohn told the press at “The Yellow Handkerchief’s” press day. “But Jodie Foster, a close friend, urged me to take her.”
“So I took her. I followed Jodie’s advice because she’s a great actress and director,” Cohn is quoted as saying in the notes.
But according to director Udayan Prasad, Kristen did a knock out audition that cemented her casting for the role.
She has a terrific presence Kristen does,” he tells PopEater. “She walked into the room. You just sensed something, like who is that person? Art [Cohn] probably talked to Jodie Foster after we had met Kristen.”
And because of Kristen’s massive success with Twilight, the film has been picked up for distribution. Kristen is not the main character in the film, but her presence and marketability has helped the film to be taken out from limbo.
“There’s no doubt the “Twilight” effect played the part,” director Udayan Prasad told Popcorn Biz.
If you don’t have a particularly sell-able star, people are very reluctant,” says Udayan. “We’re going through a period where people are scared of making decisions which could end up costing a lot of money ‘They are being very conservative.”
