Michael Sheen:New Moon for Lily

Michael Sheen is one cool father. In an interview with the Daily Record UK, Michael mentioned that he took the role of Aro, primarily for his daughter Lily, who is a big fan of the books.

“I was mainly excited about it because I knew I would make my daughter very happy.

“That was the main reason, and then I read the books and I really enjoyed them. I didn’t think I was going to, but I really did.”

The Welsh actor, who is new to the Twilight Saga, knows rabid and loyal Twilight fans maybe thus he is bracing himself.

“I am being told to gird my loins for the huge Twilight fan base and how many decibels their screaming can hit,” he says with a laugh.

“I will have to make sure I am never standing next to Robert Pattinson.” Pattinson is, of course, the handsome vampire lead in New Moon, the latest blockbuster in the vampire series.

His role in New Moon is the vampire leader Aro, who heads the triumvate of the Volturi, the vampires that lay down the vampire laws. This is a far cry from his previous fantasy role as the werewolf Lucian.

“The tailoring is so much better as a vampire although we don’t have fangs, do we? My favourite scene is the big climax at the end with a lot of special effects.”

Even the red contact lenses couldn’t dampen his mood.

“In Underworld I had to wear contact lenses the size of golfballs,” he recalls. “So these were pretty easy.

“They make anyone look automatically evil and you can see pretty good, but it’s still kind of weird.

“I actually think Dakota looks more scary than me – so angelic, yet so weird – like an evil Red Riding Hood.

“It’s quite thrilling to have Dakota Fanning calling you ‘master’.

“I think we can now reveal that we actually had to tone Dakota down.

Her natural personality is too evil, so we had to tell her to turn the volume down on her wicked nature.”

But for now, Michael is enjoying the ride and not to mention his action figures.

“I lose days with my Lucien figure and my Aro figure,” jokes Michael.

“We have tea parties. Then we fight. I’m losing work because of them.”
