Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Series has earned a berth of the list of books most challenged by parents and educators according to a new list released by the American Library Association. The Twilight Saga placed 5th in the list which also includes the Harry Potter series, And Tango Makes Three and The Catcher in the Rye.
The series was criticized mainly for sexual content and violence.
According to Barbara Jones, director for ALA’s office for intellectual freedom, the challenges may also reflect discomfort about supernatural stories.
“Vampire novels have been a target for years and theTwilight books are so immensely popular that a lot of the concerns people have had about vampires are focused on her books,” Jones said.
