With Twilight becoming a global phenomenon, the names of Edward Cullen, Isabella Swan and Jacob Black became household names. Women around the world have devoted so much time and effort into these characters thus it may not come as a surprise if they name their babies after these characters.
According to the Social Security Administration, Isabella and Jacob reigned supreme as last year’s top baby names for girls and boys. Isabella topped ‘Emma’ as the top name for baby girls while Jacob has extended its rule for the 11-year running.
“Anything can influence baby names, from pop culture to literature to music and celebrities,” said Jennifer Moss, author of “The One-in-a-Million Baby Name Book” and founder of Babynames.com.
Amongst the fast risers in the list is Edward Cullen. Edward moved up 11 spots to No. 137 whist Cullen was the biggest riser for last year, rising to No. 485, up 297 spot.
Edward Cullen is one of the lead characters. Edward moved up 11 spots, to No. 137 on the list, and Cullen was the biggest riser among boys’ names, up 297 spots to No. 485.
“People seem to be a little bit more creative, inventive and flexible with their daughters’ names,” said Social Security Commissioner Michael J. Astrue. “With boys, I think we tend to be a little bit more consistent. The names don’t change quite as much.”
