Fri, 11/12/2009 - 23:32 | by BellaAndEdward.comYou may or may not have heard about the case of a woman in Illinois, that was brought up on charges of piracy, when theater employees saw her filming during 'New Moon' and it was discovered that she had about 3 minutes worth of footage from the film. The woman, Samantha Tumpach, said she was filming the group she was with, and not the film, and that you could even hear her talking over the film footage. She was facing up to 3 years in prison. Chris Weitz even publicly came to her defense.

Samantha Tumpach, 22, of the 3800 block of Odell Avenue, had been charged with criminal use of a motion picture exhibition facility, a Class 4 felony, after she was caught using a hand-held video recorder and taping portions of the movie at Muvico Theater at 9701 Bryn Mawr Ave., said Rosemont Police said.

The 22-year old woman brought her camera to the theater, because that's where she set up her sister's surprise birthday party. During the celebration, she took photos and recorded video with her digital camera, capturing a few minutes of family members singing "Happy Birthday" and a few accidental shots of the screen that was playing "New Moon."
